Oratorical Contest
New for POST 246 is the American Legion Oratorical Contest which is a multilevel contest that challenges high school students to:
- Improve their speaking skills
- Develop an appreciation of the U.S. Constitution
- Learn about the history of the nation's laws
- Develop leadership qualities
- Learn about the duties, responsibilities, rights, and privileges of American citizenship
The contest includes the following levels: Post Level Contest, District Level Contest, Area Level Contest, State Contest, and National Contest.
The contest offers scholarships at all levels. For example, in the national contest, the top three finalists compete for: First place and a $25,000 scholarship, Second place and a $22,500 scholarship, and Third place and a $20,000 scholarship.
