American Legion Post 246, Sun City Center, Florida, held on Friday morning, 16 October 2026. The event included ceremonial observances (POW/MIA recognition, Pledge of Allegiance, Legion Constitution preamble), officer reports, guest speaker address, five new member inductions, and community outreach planning.

Steve Burrill updated us on several events and programs: the 24 October Women Veteran Conference in Tampa; Tampa Bay Bucs Football with a Purpose: Project Vet Relief (Google Football with a Purpose for more information); kudos to our website for being one of the best in the state; and Operation Green Light for Veterans, for which Burrill handed out green light bulbs to new members (green lights for veterans symbolize hope, renewal, and forward movement, serving as a visible, community-wide reminder that veterans are seen, valued, and supported).
Next, Michael Culbert introduced our guest speaker, COL. (Ret) Roland J. Tiso, Jr., who, in honor of Columbus Day, spoke about Columbus as an inspiration for the American Spirit.

Tiso also brought copies of his book, In Strange Company, his memoir of his multinational service in the Middle East, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Tiso is donating all proceeds from his book sales to veteran organizations.

Bill Wilcox was presented with a special plaque for his 8 years of service as Finance Officer.

After closing the meeting, everyone moved to enjoy the great Italian buffet provided by Frank and Michelle Denton and their Tiller and Toiler volunteers.
